![]() Clarenville was initially a site for the harvesting of lumber for boat building, but grew into a service community starting with the construction of a railway station in 1891. By 1901, the town had a population of 229 residents. With the Newfoundland Railway now only a memory, Clarenville remains the commercial, recreational, and informative hub of the Bonavista Peninsula, providing services to over 35,000 people, and has a population of over 5000 residents. Located in the beautiful Shoal Harbour River Valley, fertile land, abundant forests and great weather all combine to make Clarenville the region’s primary service centre.
![]() Bare Mountain reaches an elevation of 165 metres above sea level. Its rugged landscape remains protected from residential developments, thus making this urban hiking trail a great complement to the community that surrounds it. Interpretation panels relate the history of a community that is now a major service centre in eastern Newfoundland.
