Bare Mountain Trail

Clarenville was initially a site for the harvesting of lumber for boat building, but grew into a service community starting with the construction of a railway station in 1891. By 1901, the town had a population of 229 residents. With the Newfoundland Railway now only a memory, Clarenville remains the commercial, recreational, and informative hub of the Bonavista Peninsula, providing services to over 35,000 people, and has a population of over 5000 residents. Located in the beautiful Shoal Harbour River Valley, fertile land, abundant forests and great weather all combine to make Clarenville the region’s primary service centre.

Bare Mountain

Bare Mountain reaches an elevation of 165 metres above sea level. Its rugged landscape remains protected from residential developments, thus making this urban hiking trail a great complement to the community that surrounds it. Interpretation panels relate the history of a community that is now a major service centre in eastern Newfoundland.
